Meet Your Therapist
Camille Brunel
Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado offering individual psychotherapy to adults.
I specialize in the treatment of disordered eating, PTSD/cPTSD, and OCD. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, autism, grief, psychosis, substance abuse, relationship conflicts, and chronic pain and illness.
As a queer and non-binary therapist who is in recovery from an eating disorder, I have a unique interest in working with individuals who are queer and trans and struggling with both gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia. As a white, European-American, I also ground myself in practices of cultural humility to offer a therapy setting that is affirming of clients of other races and ethnicities. I try to minimize the power differential between provider and client through deep listening, receptivity to feedback, and empowering clients to recognize and embrace their inherent wisdom. I bring a warm, curious, and compassionate energy to psychotherapy, fostering a space where clients can be brave and vulnerable in pursuing their inner work.
I was born and grew up in Boulder, Colorado. My schooling and work have taken me across the country and I am grateful to be putting down roots again in my home state. I enjoy spending time with my spouse, family, friends, and our corgi-hound dog, Tomatillo. I also love cooking, reading, hiking, listening to music, and spending time in Buddhist and progressive Christian spiritual communities.
“The clarity of Self gives you a kind of X-ray vision, so you see behind the other person’s protectors to their vulnerability, and in turn your heart opens to them.”
Richard C. Schwartz.
Education & Training
I completed my Master of Science in Nutrition & Clinical Health Psychology in 2019 at Bastyr University, a school for natural medicine in Kenmore, WA. After receiving my associate license, I practiced therapy at a community mental health agency in Seattle, WA that focused on serving lower-income, LGBTQIA+ adults. I went on to work at a group private practice in Tacoma, WA that treats eating disorders from a Health at Every Size and anti-oppression lens.
When I returned to Colorado, I worked as a primary therapist at an inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization unit for children and adolescents before transitioning to an outpatient treatment center for eating disorders and mental health.
I have primarily received training in the following modalities: Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
- M.S. in Nutrition & Clinical Health Psychology, Bastyr University
- B.A. in Religious Studies, Oberlin College, graduated with High Honors
My Approach
to Clinical Therapy
I aim to bring a spirit of open-mindedness, lightheartedness, and collaboration to the therapeutic relationship. I provide gentle guidance to clients to help them move into discomfort, expand their insight, and discover previously untapped strength and resources, while also respecting each person’s unique process and pacing.
I primarily use Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy in my counseling practice, engaging the intrinsic healing power of our Self to allow exiled and protective parts to be unburdened and liberated from their habitual roles. I integrate IFS with somatic therapy, encouraging clients to develop a more attuned relationship with their body and to allow felt sensation to direct their internal work. I strive to bring a non-stigmatizing attitude to mental health care and encourage clients to notice the ways in which the harmful and hierarchical systems we live in contribute to our experience of suffering. I use my nutrition education and training to support clients in cultivating an intuitive relationship with food, rest, and other forms of nourishment. I also practice Zen Buddhism in the Plum Village lineage of Thich Nhat Hanh and synthesize its mindfulness principles with western psychotherapy.
